Improliv

Indication:

Improliv is indicated for the treatment of-

• Chronic Inflammatory Liver Diseases: Management of long-term liver inflammation.
• Liver Cirrhosis: Supportive treatment for scarring of the liver.
• Fatty Liver: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and alcoholic fatty liver.
• Toxic Liver Damage: Protection against liver damage caused by alcohol, drugs, or environmental toxins.
• Jaundice: To support recovery during and after jaundice.
• Digestive Support: Relief of indigestion or “heaviness” associated with liver sluggishness.

Dogase & Adminstration:

• Adults: Usually, 140 mg of Silymarin is taken 2 to 3 times daily. For maintenance, the dose can be reduced to 70-140 mg daily.
• Children: There is limited clinical data for children. It is generally not recommended for children under 12 without a doctor’s specific advice. If prescribed, the dose is usually adjusted based on body weight (e.g., 5 mg/kg per day in divided doses).

Administration: Capsules should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, preferably after meals for better absorption and to avoid GI discomfort.

Pharmacology:

Silymarin, the active component of Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum), acts primarily as a hepatoprotective agent through multiple mechanisms:

• • Antioxidant Activity: It scavenges free radicals and increases intracellular levels of glutathione, which is crucial for liver detoxification.
  • Membrane Stabilization: It stabilizes the hepatic cell membrane, preventing the entry of toxins (like Amanita mushroom toxins) into the cells.
  • Protein Synthesis Stimulation: It stimulates RNA polymerase I in the nucleus of hepatocytes, leading to increased ribosomal protein synthesis. This promotes the regeneration of damaged liver tissues.
  • Anti-inflammatory: It inhibits the NF-kB pathway and reduces the production of leukotrienes, helping to manage liver inflammation.

Side Effects:

Generally well-tolerated. Rare side effects include mild diarrhea, nausea, bloating, or allergic reactions (especially in people allergic to ragweed or daisies).

Pregnancy & Lactation:

Not recommended unless prescribed by a physician, as safety data in these groups is insufficient.
