Age M Tablet

Indication:

Age M Tablet is indicated for the treatment of-

• Oxidative Stress Prevention: To protect cells from free radical damage caused by pollution, smoking, and UV radiation.
• Immune Support: Enhancing immune response during chronic infections or recovery.
• Skin & Eye Health: Prevention of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and maintaining skin elasticity/protection against solar damage.
• Cardiovascular Health: Helping to prevent the oxidation of LDL cholesterol, which is a key factor in atherosclerosis.
• Deficiency States: In cases of inadequate dietary intake or malabsorption syndromes.

Dogase & Adminstration:

Adults (Oral):

• General Health Support: 1 tablet or capsule once daily.
• Therapeutic Use: 1 tablet 1 to 2 times daily as directed by a healthcare professional.

Children (Oral – Based on BNFC):

• Over 12 years: Adult dose (usually 1 tablet daily).
• Under 12 years: High-dose antioxidant combinations are not usually indicated for young children unless specific deficiency is diagnosed. Age-appropriate pediatric multi-vitamins are recommended.

Administration: Must be taken after a meal (preferably one containing some fat) because Beta-carotene and Vitamin E are fat-soluble and require dietary fat for optimal absorption.

Pharmacology:

• Mechanism of Action: * Beta-carotene: It is a carotenoid and a precursor to Vitamin A. It acts as an antioxidant by scavenging free radicals and quenching singlet oxygen. It is particularly effective in protecting lipids in cell membranes and supporting vision and skin integrity.
  • Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid): A water-soluble antioxidant that is essential for the synthesis of collagen and intercellular glycosaminoglycans. It protects proteins, lipids, and DNA from oxidation. It also helps regenerate Vitamin E from its oxidized form.
  • Vitamin E (Tocopherol): A lipid-soluble antioxidant that prevents the oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids in cell membranes. It protects the cell from damage caused by peroxyl radicals, thereby maintaining the stability of the cell membrane.
• Synergistic Effect: These three antioxidants work together in a “redox cycle.” Vitamin C regenerates Vitamin E, while Beta-carotene protects the lipid-rich environments where Vitamin E operates. This synergy strengthens the body’s defense against chronic diseases and premature aging

Side Effects:

• Common: Gastrointestinal upset, diarrhea, or bright orange/yellow discoloration of the skin (harmless, due to Beta-carotene).

Drug Interaction:

• Anticoagulants (Warfarin): High doses of Vitamin E may increase the risk of bleeding.
• Statins: Antioxidant vitamins may theoretically interfere with some lipid-lowering medications, though evidence is limited.
• Smoking: High doses of Beta-carotene supplements are not recommended for heavy smokers due to a potential increase in lung cancer risk.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

• Pregnancy: Generally safe in recommended daily allowances. Excess Vitamin A/Beta-carotene should be avoided.
• Lactation: Safe. Vitamin C and E pass into breast milk but are considered beneficial at standard doses.

Over Dosage:

Extremely high doses of Vitamin C can cause kidney stones or severe diarrhea. Chronic excess Vitamin E may increase the risk of hemorrhagic stroke.
