Gavilac Tablet

Indication:

Gavilac Tablet is indicated for the treatment of-

• Gastric reflux (acid reflux/GERD)
• Heartburn & retrosternal burning Indigestion /Dyspepsia
•  Flatulence associated with gastric acid reflux
•  Heartburn during pregnancy
• Epigastric & retrosternal distress where reflux is the cause

Dogase & Adminstration:

Oral Suspension :

• Adults and children aged 12 years and older:
  10–20 mL after meals and at bedtime.
  Elderly: No dose adjustment is required for this age group.
• Children 6–12 years:
  5–10 mL after meals and at bedtime.
• Children under 6 years:
  Not recommended for use.

Chewable Tablet should be taken in oral route after being thoroughly chewed. Recommended dose: Adults and children 12 years and over: Take two to four tablets after meals and at bedtime, up to four times a day.
Children under 12 years: Tablets should be given only on medical advice.

Pharmacology:

Its works locally in the stomach to provide effective relief from acid reflux and heartburn through a combination of three active ingredients: Sodium Alginate, Sodium Bicarbonate, and Calcium Carbonate.

1. Sodium Alginate:
   When Sodium Alginate reacts with gastric acid, it forms a thick, gel-like raft that floats on the surface of the stomach contents. This raft acts as a barrier, preventing stomach acid from rising up into the esophagus, which effectively reduces the sensation of heartburn and acid reflux.
2. Sodium Bicarbonate:
   Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) works as an antacid by neutralizing excess stomach acid. This raises the pH of the stomach contents, reducing acidity and thus alleviating the burning sensation associated with heartburn.
3. Calcium Carbonate:
   Calcium Carbonate, another potent antacid, further neutralizes stomach acid, providing additional relief from heartburn and gastric discomfort. It also helps maintain a healthy calcium level in the body, making it beneficial for overall health.

This combined action of the three ingredients creates a dual effect:

• Sodium Alginate forms a protective raft to prevent acid reflux.
• Sodium Bicarbonate and Calcium Carbonate neutralize the stomach acid, reducing irritation and heartburn.

Together, they help effectively manage the symptoms of acid reflux, heartburn, and indigestion, providing fast relief and promoting comfort in the digestive system.

Side Effects:

Most side effects are mild and short-lived, including:
• Constipation
• Belching
• Stomach cramps
• Flatulence (gas)
Excessive use may lead to bloating or discomfort. If you experience any severe side effects, consult a healthcare provider immediately.

Drug Interaction:

Its can affect the absorption of certain medications. It is recommended to allow a 2-hour gap between Gavisol and the following medications:
• Tetracyclines
• Fluoroquinolones
• Iron salts
• Ketoconazole
• Digoxin
• Beta-blockers
• Thyroid hormones
• Glucocorticoids
• Penicillamine
• Bisphosphonates
This ensures maximum absorption of these medications.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

Pregnancy: Gavisol is generally considered safe during pregnancy, as it has low systemic absorption. However, consult a healthcare provider before use.
Lactation: Gavisol is considered safe for breastfeeding mothers, as no harmful effects have been observed in nursing infants. Consult a doctor before use.

Over Dosage:

Excessive use may cause:
• Metabolic alkalosis
• Hypercalcemia (high calcium levels)
• Constipation
• Abdominal discomfort
If overdose occurs, seek medical attention immediately.

Therapeutic Class:

Antacids (Acid Neutralizing Agents) — Used for relieving heartburn, acid reflux, and indigestion symptoms.

Storage Conditions:

Store below at 30°C  temperature in a dry place. Away from light and out of reach of children. Do not use the medication after its expiration date.
