Opsovit Z 200 ml

Indication:

Opsovit Z 200 ml is indicated for the treatment of-

• Zinc and B-Vitamin Deficiencies: Prevention and treatment of deficiencies resulting from poor diet, chronic illness, or malabsorption.
• Immune System Boost: Supporting the body’s natural defense mechanism during infections or recovery.
• Growth and Development: Promoting healthy growth in children and adolescents.
• Skin and Hair Health: Treatment of acne, hair loss (alopecia), and brittle nails associated with zinc deficiency.
• Convalescence: Accelerated recovery after surgery or prolonged illness.
• Appetite Loss: Helpful in cases of decreased appetite and general weakness.

Dogase & Adminstration:

Adults (Oral):

• General Health Support: 1 tablet or capsule once daily.
• Therapeutic Use: 1 tablet 1 to 2 times daily or as recommended by a physician.

Children (Oral – Based on BNFC):

• Infants and Children (<12 years): Usually administered in syrup form. Dose depends on age and weight (e.g., 5 ml once daily for infants, 5 ml twice daily for older children).
• Adolescents (12–18 years): 1 tablet daily or as per specialist advice.

Administration: It is best taken after a meal with plenty of water. Zinc can sometimes cause nausea on an empty stomach; taking it with food significantly improves tolerance.

• Mechanism of Action:
  • Vitamin B-Complex: These vitamins function as essential co-enzymes in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Thiamine (B1) is crucial for neural conduction; Riboflavin (B2) and Nicotinamide (B3) are key players in cellular respiration (ATP production). Pyridoxine (B6) is vital for amino acid metabolism and neurotransmitter synthesis, while B12 is necessary for erythropoiesis and myelin sheath maintenance.
  • Zinc: Zinc is a vital trace element involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions. It plays a fundamental role in DNA synthesis, cell division, and protein synthesis. It is a key modulator of the immune response, promoting the development and activation of T-lymphocytes.
• Pharmacodynamics: The combination works synergistically to improve metabolic efficiency. Zinc enhances the tissue repair process, while B-vitamins ensure that the energy required for these processes is available.
• Pharmacokinetics: Most B-vitamins are water-soluble and absorbed in the upper GI tract. Zinc is primarily absorbed in the small intestine; its absorption is influenced by dietary phytates. Both are excreted through renal and fecal routes.

Side Effects:

• Common: Nausea, stomach upset, or a metallic taste in the mouth.
• Rare: Allergic reactions (rash) or diarrhea if taken in very high doses.

Drug Interaction:

• Antibiotics: Zinc may reduce the absorption of Quinolones and Tetracyclines; take these medications at least 2 hours apart.
• Penicillamine: Zinc and B6 may interact with penicillamine, reducing its effect.
• Diuretics: Thiazide diuretics can increase the urinary excretion of zinc.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

• Pregnancy: Generally safe and often recommended. Consult a doctor for the appropriate dose.
• Lactation: Safe for nursing mothers as it helps maintain maternal and infant health.

Over Dosage:

Chronic high doses of zinc can lead to copper deficiency and impaired immune function. Acute B-vitamin overdose is rare as excess is excreted in urine.
